Workers at the Bulk Storage and Transport Company (BOST) say they are ready to file lawsuits in order to set aside the termination of their appointments as workers of the company.
Termination letters of some purported BOST staff were seen circulating on social media last week.
rawgist.com’s investigations revealed that the letters were indeed authentic sack letters issued to some workers who were employed last year after their National Service based on recommendations from their various Heads of Departments.
rawgist.com sources at BOST reveal that over 30 people successfully completed their national service at the company last year out of which 20 were found to have excelled in the discharge of their duties. Their National service period was extended with recommendations from their various Heads of Departments and they were subsequently employed as workers of the company.
They were stationed at the Accra plains, Buipe, Kumasi depots as well as the head Office.
With the resumption of work of a new Managing Director of the company, they received letters terminating their appointments with immediate effect. No reasons were ascribed for their termination.
Although there have been meetings with the MD in an effort to reverse the termination, the terminated workers say no positive results have been obtained.
Workers of BOST including the various Associations within the company have wore red bands in solidarity with their dislodged colleagues.
The victims involved have initiated legal action to seek an injunction on the decision to enable them remain staff until a court decision is arrived at concerning the lawfulness or otherwise of the decision to terminate their appointments.
They tell rawgist.com the decision is arbitrary, and a slap in the face of laid down rules and procedures.
Barring any positive results, the Senior staff Association of the company might also resort to a demonstration to indicate to management their solidarity with their colleagues who are being victimized.
