The Appointments Committee of Parliament is expected to continue vetting President John Mahama’s Ministerial nominees today after the process ended violently last night.
The abrupt and chaotic end of the vetting process followed violence between members of the Minority and Majority sides of the Committee that left microphones, tables, and other fittings at the vetting venue destroyed.
The chaos began after misunderstandings over whether or not the vetting process should continue or end. The Minority side insisted the proceedings should be adjourned to Friday morning while the Majority insisted on carrying on the vetting. It was well after 10pm when the violent misunderstanding began.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; Ministerial Nominees for foreign Affairs and Health respectively were in line to be vetted when the confusion occurred forcing leadership of the committee to adjourn proceedings to Friday morning due to broken microphones and furniture.
There are suspicions generally that the minority side want enough time to “deal with” the nominee for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa hence the call for his vetting along with that of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and others to be rescheduled to today.
