A pro-government Civil Society Group, the People’s Forum has challenged 2012 running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to a round table debate on figures being churned out by the Bank of Ghana and the Statistical Service.
The former deputy Governor of the Central Bank now turned politician in an article said the statistics being churned out by the two state institutions with respect to the Exchange Rate and Inflation are not credible and fly in the face of reality.
But the People’s Forum believes Dr Bawumia is being too political and partisan.
Addressing the media in Accra, spokesman for the group, Clement Amole called for a national discussion to ascertain who was misrepresenting the economic situation to Ghanaians.
A founding member of the group, Spencer Quaye described the actions of Dr Bawumia as bordering on criminality and urged the security agencies to investigate his utterances in respect to the Bank of Ghana understating the Exchange rate.
A member of the group, Prince Kassim Alinbankudi also explained the rationale behind the decision of the People’s Forum to issue the invitation to Dr Bawumia for a national discussion.
