Play an active role in Ghana’s Democratic path- Youth group urges judiciary

joint_alliance_youthMovementThe Joint Alliance Youth Movement, a non-profit political group has urged the judiciary to take active role in shaping up the democratic path of the country.

According to the group, the judiciary has so much to offer the country as the people have chosen to be governed by the rule of law.

Many cases as well as legal issues that threatened to break the back of the country, the group noted had always been resolved by the judiciary at the courts.

The group, therefore, is calling on the judiciary to rather than wait for issues to be brought before it for interpretation, conduct periodic education for civil society, religious bodies, parliamentarians and political parties so as to safeguard the country’s democracy.

TEST CASE:
Using the recent ruling given by the Supreme Court following a suit filed by the former National Youth Organizer of the Peoples National Convention, the group said the court could have saved the country the torture of having to delete and re-register NHIS card bearers if the right education had been given to stakeholders in Ghana’s democracy.

Worlawoe Anani Amegashie, coordinator for the group flanked by group members, Alidu Adams and Barima Tweneboah Koduah told the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper the judiciary could have settled the matter if there had been consistent education on how a Ghanaian could register as a voter.

He, therefore, entreated the judiciary to take steps to repair the lukewarm attitude they apply to issues of national interest.

The Bar Association, the group stressed had been the worst culprits having sat on the fence as if nothing concerned them.

They, the group posited only showed up when people use intemperate language either on radio or television.

ELECTORAL COMMISSION:
The group rallied the Electoral Commission to enforce the regulation governing the setting up of political parties in the country.

They claimed many parties that lacked proper grounding and the required offices to operate could have been outlawed if the EC had enforced its law.

Due to this, the group alleged many charlatans would soon come up with the formation of same just to enrich its leaders and members at the detriment of the vulnerable in the society.

Currently, the group claimed some existing political parties lacked the requisite facilities to operate as such and called on the EC to crack the whip on them so as to sanitize the political space in the country.

The group, however, entreated the commission to apply tact and professionalism as it readies itself to conduct a flawless poll in December.
