Plot To Frustrate KNUST VC From Beginning Second Term Mandate Uncovered!

Some persons suspected to be members of the KNUST Governing Council are alleged to be plotting against Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of the University from commencing her extended two year mandate from the 1st of August, 2024.

The pained persons, our source reveals have hatched a plan to use a member of one of the groups represented on the Board to begin a legal challenge against the extension.

This legal action, our source noted is nothing but an avenue of frustration to prevent Prof Dickson from officially carrying on her mandate on the1st August.

Our source said the disgruntled persons are working with a plan that seeks to injunct the VC from carrying on the extended mandate on the stated date and when the injunction is granted at the courts it would mean the VC has to step aside for the legal processes to go on unhindered.

Wicked Agenda:
This agenda, when it works according to script, our source says would get the Board to hand over to the Pro Vice- Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo the mantle of leadership in an acting capacity till the legal challenge is done away with.

Knowing the Ghanaian legal system whose procedures are sometimes laboured and slow, the suspected council members are confident that their protégé Prof Owusu-Dabo can hold on to the acting position for over a year or more.

According to the source, whatever happens after the legal process which is envisaged to travel long would be inconsequential to the peeved persons since they would have succeeded in helping their favourite Pro- VC the opportunity of staying on as VC albeit in an acting capacity.

Prof Owusu-Dabo, the Pro VC by his age cannot be VC if Professor Rita Dickson, the VC gets the opportunity to commence her extended mandate.

It is upon this that the clandestine legal routes is being explored to by the pained persons on the Governing Council.

This latest attempt comes in the heels of a previous one the pained persons tried when they got the SRC President who was hospitalised at the time to defy the sickness and come to vote against Prof Dickson at the Council meeting.

Background:
Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, first female Vice Chancellor for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) would have ended her first 4 year mandate on the 1st August, 2024.

But even before her mandate expired, she dutifully put in an application before the Governing Board and in same she sought an extension of her mandate since the KNUST Constitution allowed once she was not 60 years, the mandate retirement age.

Rita Dickson is currently 54 years and is still within the age that warranted her application for extension of a further two years.

In June, the Governing Council after the perusal of the evaluation committee’s report on the Prof Dickson’s extension application met and after a lengthy deliberation voted and granter her same.

Prof Rita Akosua Dickson is therefore readying herself to take the second term mandate from the 1st of August, 2024.
