Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye has said police in the region have noted with grave concern the level of intolerance and impunity in the Ejisu Township and its environs.
He therefore warned persons engaged in such acts to desist or incur the wrath of the police.
The Police chief was referring to a recent demonstration in the municipality that led to a clash between police officers and angry demonstrators.
Some angry residents in the area recently demonstrated against the relocation of traders by the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Assembly; a development that triggered police officers to use teargas on angry protesters when they pelted the police with stones in a clash.
The Police Commander, who was speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the Ejisu Divisional Police Command, warned police will deal with acts of indiscipline in the region.
“People in Ejisu are gradually becoming intolerant and the act of impunity and indiscipline is taking over this area.
This is a warning to people here, any act of indiscipline or violence will be met with the commensurate level of the same action,” he warned.
The Police commander who is also known as ‘Commander 1’ said his outfit has also taken note of an earlier request by the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality to transfer ‘recalcitrant’ police officers in the area.
Mr Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to transfer police officers who have been in the municipality for more than a year and bring new crop of officers to assist the municipal in fighting crime.
DCOP Boakye in his response said the Service will take action against Police Officers whose actions were against the tenets of the Ghana Police Service.
He also called on people living in Ejisu and its surroundings assist the Police in fighting crime by giving out information to the Police to arrest persons who were terrorizing innocent citizens.
He cited reports of highway robberies on the Ejisu-Bonwire road as worrying and assured Police readiness to curb such practice.
The Municipal Assembly is also putting up residential accommodation for officers at the newly built Divisional Police Command.
Fourteen (14) new motor-bikes were also presented to Police officers by some corporate bodies to assist them in their patrols.
