Ghana’s two leading political parties the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have scheduled their national delegates’ congresses for October.
Whiles the NPP will be voting to elect a flagbearer for the 2016 presidential elections on October 18, the NDC has slated its congress for October 24 to 26 to pick national party executives.
Both congresses would involve thousands of delegates converging at a single location, something health officials have cautioned against.
Due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the government has suspended international conferences scheduled to be hosted in Ghana until the deadly disease was under control.
The citizenry have also been urged to as much as possible avoid massing up at places for the period to limit the possibility of contracting Ebola.
Some one hundred and forty one thousand delegates are expected to attend the NPP event.
Deputy Health Minister Victor Bampoe is advising them to seek advice from health officials before going ahead with such huge event as a precaution.
