Political Scientist calls for legislation for NDPC’s long term policy

A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has called for a law supporting the national development plan set to be launched by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in order to make it effective.

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) announced it has developed a long-term National Development Policy (NDP) to guide the country’s development trajectory.

The Director-General of the NDPC, Dr Essiem Mensah-Abrampa, who made this known, said the document had been developed over the last four years based on broad consultations.

He said the policy, dubbed: “Ghana @ 100 Long-term Development Framework”, would serve as a blueprint to which all political party manifestos must be aligned.

Dr Mensah-Abrampa said this at a media briefing held by the commission Monday.

Mr. Muhammed Abass; a Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology however says though the announcement is welcomed, care has to be taken to ensure that it does not become another waste of the country’s resources. He called for legislation and an iron-clad plan to ensure the success of the plan.
