We are poor because we chose bad leaders-Agonahene

Agona-chiefThe chief of Agona in the Ashanti Region, Nana Anokye Frimpong Ababio has stated the African continent is poor because the people were led by bad leaders.

Despite the natural and human resource potentials, the chief insisted the continent had been shortchanged by corrupt leaders who have used same to enrich themselves.

Speaking during a courtesy call on him at his palace by Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party,(NPP) the chief bemoaned the poverty in the country currently.

POVERTY:
According to him, Ghana with its rich natural resources should never have wallowed in poverty and starvation.

But, unfortunately, he stressed the country had had its fair share of irresponsible leadership.

This, he noted had often plunged the country into a state of uncertainty with the youth lacking jobs and the aged living in hopelessness.

He stressed instead of providing social interventions to cushion the masses from poverty, some governments had rather resorted to the implementation of rigorous tax systems to rake more revenue to the state coffers at detriment of the poor.

This, however, the chief disclosed had turned out to be a lazy way of doing things since that was not a good way of  restoring an ailing economy back on shape.

CHARGE:
The chief, however, charged the NPP flag-bearer to be a distinct leader when he is elected as president by the people.

”Chart a better way of governance and restore hope to the people through the implementation of good policies if you are elected as president in the upcoming polls”, the Chief urged.

He called on the flag-bearer to conduct an issue-based campaign so as to properly get the people to buy into the message he is conveying.

The chief commended Nana Addo for conducting himself selflessly since his early days when he practised as a lawyer.

NANA ADDO:
On his part, Nana Addo promised to fulfill all the good policies and programs he had outlined, adding he will not fail.

He reechoed his determination to lead a transformational agenda where the youth will be a priority.

He noted the youth will be enabled to get jobs and training to better their lives and families.

The flag-bearer assured the chiefs and people that he would deliver the promise of citing one factory in each of the districts in the country.

This, he stressed would ensure the reduction of poverty, unemployment and the curtailment of rural to urban migration.
