Ghana News-The vociferous youth group in the Eastern Region, Asuogyaman Youth Foundation has intensified its call for the NPP to present Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Chief Executive Officer for the National Lotteries Authority(NLA) as MP aspirant.
According to the group, the NLA boss presents the most potent wand to wrestle the Asuogyaman parliamentary seat from the NDC having performed creditably as MP on two occasions.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Stephen Gyamfi, Spokesperson and Acting Executive Secretary for the group said the NPP stands winning both the parliamentary seat in the area and presidential election when it gets Osei Ameyaw to contest again in 2020.
Mr Osei Ameyaw’s ethnic background as Akwamu and Ewe, the Executive Director stated gives him an advantage over any aspirant the NPP will seek to put up since the area is becoming predominantly Ewe town.
ELECTORAL DYNAMICS:
Since 1992, the spokesperson revealed the NDC has always won the presidential election in the Asuogyaman community.
The NPP, according to him have managed to win the parliamentary polls with Osei Ameyaw winning it for them on two occasions.
The NLA CEO, the spokesperson recapped won the seat in 2004 and served a four year term to 2008.
Mr Osei Ameyaw in 2012 won the seat again for the NPP and only exited in 2016 after serving the constituents faithfully, Mr Gyamfi noted.
CHANCES:
The Executive Secretary said the NPP’s chances will be brighter in doing the double over the NDC if Osei Ameyaw is presented as aspirant.
With the work he has done so far and with the level of influence the NLA boss commands in the Asuogyaman locality, the spokesperson said the NPP stands to win the MP seat as well as the presidential election in the area.
Asuogyaman being a traditional stronghold for the NDC, Mr Gyamfi stressed only an Osei Ameyaw candidature can do the trick for the NPP.
He, on behalf of the group, rallied the NPP to convince Mr Ameyaw to contest the Asuogyaman constituency seat when nominations are open for people to lead the party as aspirants in the parliamentary level.
