President unveils statue in honour of Otumfuo, cuts sod for phase 2 of Kejetia project

 

 

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo thursday unveiled a statue built in honor of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The President also used the occasion to break the ground for the phase two of the redeveloped Kejetia project.

Speaking at the elaborate event in Kumasi, the President noted the phase two project would cost 248million euros and would be completed in 48 months time.

He said the British government is providing funds for the second phase, adding the project would help to eliminate the recurring fire outbreaks at the old central market.

”This project will ensure traders and market women get better places to work as well as bring to an end the recurring fires in the market”, the President noted.

SUPPORT:
The President commended the Asantehene for supporting the entire project.

The support of Otumfuo, the President reiterated has been crucial to the start and completion of the first phase.

He appealed to the King and all stakeholders to take keen interest in the phase two to ensure the contractor, Messers Contracta Construction Company delivers quality job.

The President thanked the people of Kumasi for showing support to the government in the implementation of the policies it outlined before it won the 2016 elections.

OTUMFUO:
The Asantehene, in his succinct remarks charged the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to enusre those who owned stalls at the old kejetia site are allocated same before the commencement of work of the phase two of the project.

He said the resettlement plan should have been followed by now to give stalls to those who owned same earlier before the KMA gives room for persons who now wants to own some to do so now.

Otumfuo cautioned that failure by the KMA to head to the road map would force him to report them to the President for query.

The King, however, commended the President for his commitment to development and urged that more job openings are given to people to make a living.
