A bag of sachet water in the Brong Ahafo Region has been reduced from GHC 3 to GHC 2.
This is as a result of disparities in the price of sachet water which caused misunderstandings between retailers and consumers in the Takyiman and Sunyani Municipalities.
There was public outrage over the 100 percent increment in the price of a bag of sachet water in the region a month ago.
The bag was previously sold at GHC 1.5pesewas but was later increased to GHC 3, and a sachet of water which used to be sold at 10 pesewas was increased to 20 pesewas.
According to the residents, despite the fact that the cost of production has increased over time thereby putting a lot of pressure on the producers of sachet water, it is unacceptable to increase the price of water; an essential commodity that should not be treated like any other commodity.
The Regional Chairman of the sachet water producers association, Emmanuel Dapaah told Citi News, the producers were compelled to reduce the price because of the nationwide differences.
Mr Dapaah said the public outcry over the prices was taken into consideration by the producers.
The Secretary of the Sachet Water Producers Association in the Region, Osei Nifah however, said, members of the association have left the pricing at the discretion of the retailers to either sell it for 15 or 20 pesewas per sachet.
Meanwhile, the sachet water producers association in the region will meet on Tuesday.
