Some amazing revelations are emerging from Ghana’s prisons system.
It turns out Prison wardens who should supervise the inmates rather indulge them in a variety of entertaining activities.
Otec FM’s Isaac Nsiah Foster has been investigating some leads regarding this and confirms some of the wardens lead the inmates to drinking spots where they drink local gin and beer. As if that were not enough, they help them engage the services of commercial sex workers for sexual gratification.
Some of the Prison wardens who are officially assigned to take inmates outside to work end up supervising them to beg on the streets for money.
A source at the Manhyia local prisons confirmed the story and said the prison inmates who have been practicing such acts are said to be stationed at the Kumasi central prisons with a handful at the Manhyia local prisons.
This normally happens after the wardens have shared the booty acquired from the begging activities of the prisoners.
Isaac Nsiah Foster who has been monitoring the activities of the prison inmates and wardens reports that these dastardly activities happen at suburbs like Adehyeman, Doctor Mensa, Adum and Asafo BB all within the Kumasi metropolis.
Ashanti regional Prisons Commander DDP B Duut says he as issued various cautions to officers who engage in such acts to refrain since it is criminal and tarnishes the image of the service.
“I have been warning wardens every morning not to aid any prisoner/prisoners to engage in crime whiles with them on supervisory duties”, he told Isaac Nsiah Foster when he visited him in his office on Friday December 15, at Adum in Kumasi.
He promised to fish out officers who engage in such activities with the prisoners and calls on the public to provide information regarding such acts.
Some of the prisoners he finds out commit further crimes when they are supposed to be working and run back to seek refuge at the prison yard. He reveals that some even get to impregnate young girls whiles still serving their prison sentences.
