Ghanaian literary icon, Professor Ama Atta Aidoo has called on writers and publishers to make books readily available to Ghanaians in order to evoke their interest in reading.

The world book and copyright day was set aside by UNESCO to pay a worldwide tribute to books and authors, to encourage people especially young people discover the pleasure of reading.
Speaking on Accra based Live FM, Ama Atta Aidoo expressed worry about how Ghanaians have been tagged as a non-reading population whereas books are not readily available to them.
“Ghanaians don’t read because nobody is selling Ghanaians books. Something should be done to stimulate the habit of reading in Ghanaians”, she said.
She appealed to writers and publishers to make books readily available at affordable rates for Ghanaians to patronize.
