Ghana Education News-Prof. Rita A. Dickson of Faculty of Pharmacy came up top among her contenders in the PRO-Vice Chancellor elections held on Thursday, 20th September, 2018 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The election held to elect a successor to the outgoing Pro-VC of the University, Rev. Prof. Charles Ansah, had three Persons contesting for the position; Prof. Ben K. B. Banful from the Department of Horticulture, Prof. Rita A. Dickson from Faculty of Pharmacy and Prof. Charles Ofosu Marfo of the Department of Modern Languages.
Prof. Rita Dickson led the polls with 326 representing 44.72%. Prof. Charles Marfo emerged as the second in the race with 214 votes representing 29.36% while Prof. Ben Banful had 189 votes representing 25%.
Speaking to Edward Oppong Marfo shortly after the elections, the University Relations Officer of KNUST, Mr. Kwame Yeboah Jnr indicated that the names of the first two persons in the race, Prof. Rita Dickson and Prof. Charles Marfo will be presented to the University council and one person will be selected.
Stating the key role of the Pro-VC, Mr. Kwame Yeboah Jnr, said the Pro-VC supports agenda of the Vice Chancellor of the University.
He further indicated that the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kwasi Obiri Danso indicated his willingness to work with all the three persons who contested.
”The Vice Chancellor would have to be given the flexibility to get people he would be comfortable working with, so the three people who contested were selected by the Vice Chancellor,” he said.
The URO expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the entire elections, describing it as smooth and successful.
