Public Basic Schools Under Transformation—Dr Adutwum
The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says the new dawn in Ghana’s education is here with the determination by government to do away with the old, delipidated structures and the replacement of same with 21st century state-of-the-art equipment.
He said, no longer are public schools in Ghana housed in brown and yellow buildings.
Speaking after a tour of some basic schools across Ghana, the Education Minister said recent examples of schools in the Ashanti Region and others in the Volta region such as AZZA, and Dzertokoe were now model junior high STEM schools.
“Some of the latest schools are also in Juaben and Sunyani with state of the art facilities and these are clear indications of the government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s education”, the Minister stressed.
Transformational Agenda:
The Minister intimated that the Ghanaian government is making significant strides in improving the educational infrastructure in the country.
“Gone are the days when students had to learn in dilapidated classrooms with outdated equipment. In their place are modern learning facilities equipped with the latest technology”, Dr Adutwum stated.
One notable example of this transformation, he noted is the Azzaman Zongo Al-Qalam (AZZA) Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
This school, he disclosed was built to provide quality education to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Dr Adutwum said the school boasts modern classrooms, a well-equipped laboratory, a library, and a computer lab.
“These facilities provide a conducive learning environment for students and enable them to acquire the necessary skills for their future careers”, the Minister posited.

The Minister noted that another example of this educational renaissance is Dzertokoe Junior High School in the Volta Region.
This school, Dr Adutwum explained was also built to provide quality education to students from rural areas.
The schools, the Minister revealed haelve modern classrooms, a library, and a computer lab.
“These facilities enable students to access information and learn using modern technology”, the Education intimated.
Government’s Commitment:
The minister revealed that government has established model junior high STEM schools across the country.
These schools, he said are focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
The latest additions to this network of schools are in Juaben and Sunyani with modern facilities.
“These schools have state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with modern technology that enables students to conduct experiments and learn through hands-on experience”, the Minister mentioned.

These initiatives, Dr Adutwum stated demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for students in Ghana.
“By investing in educational infrastructure, the government aims to attract more students to schools and improve academic performance”, the Minister stressed.
