Some residents of the Ashanti regional capital are unhappy with the number of children roaming the streets of Kumasi.
Speaking to rawgist.com on the matter, many pointed accusing fingers at the Department of Social Welfare for “looking on unconcerned as children of school going age disregard education and break traffic rules and regulations”.
There were others yet who cited the Domestic and Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service for the trend.
Children in the metropolis sell on busy streets with many having to stand under the scorching sun with little or on knowledge of the dangers associated with the streets.
Residents of Kumasi, mainly traders who encounter these children daily believe it’s high time authorities of the KMA did something to correct the anomaly.
“It is unfair for these children to be left to fend for their households or even themselves. Parents should be found and made to take responsibility for their children or the children should be taken off the streets into some kind of program that protects them”, a trader intimated.
