Teaching and non teaching staff in the Ashanti region Friday hit the streets to demand the removal of the Ashanti regional Director of Education, Safo kantanka and the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education within seven days.
The over one hundred teachers who wore black and red attire presented a petition to the President through Ashanti Regional minister who urged them to return to the classroom whiles officers at the regional adminstration work on their grievances.
The grievances of the teaching and non-teaching staff who demonstrated include the arbitrary transfers of their colleagues by the Ghana Education service, the dissolution of sub-metro offices of education in the Ashanti region,the usurpation of powers and functions of regional managers of education by the regional and metro directors of eduation. Others include the assault of a female teacher by the regional director, Metro director and security personnel, insulting teachers and other educational staff among several other accusations.
The angry teachers also accused Mr. Safo Kantanka of corruption and misappropriation of funds.
They say the removal of Mr. Kantanka and Gertrude Mensah will be in the interest of development of education in the region.
