MR. SIMON OSEI Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minster has charged Presiding Members of the various Municipal Metropolitan and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to seek accountability and transparency in the line duty to enhance total development and the welfare of the people.
Speaking at a three-day workshop for conference of Presiding Members in the Ashanti region on the theme: Financial Management Reforms -The Role of Presiding Members, he observed that, accountability is key in the Assemblies for development, and for that matter it is the duty of the PMs to seek accountability and transparency but not to sabotage and undermine the work of their MMDCEs.
He entreated them to be guided by principles of fairness, accountability and transparency to support the government succeed, and expressed the hope that, the workshop would equip them perform effectively and efficiently.
Mr. Esuah Dadzi, Dean of Presiding Members Conference, explained that, to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, Presiding Members play key roles in the financial and public procurement management and for that matter, the need to equip them to help influence the development of the various Assemblies.
He stressed the importance of collaboration with MMDCEs if informed decisions are to be made.residing Members must understand and appreciate MMDCEs to make an inform decision. Says the role of PMs is very crucial to help transform the lives of the people to ensure that the lives of the people are transform by the implementation of government initiatives.
Nana Owusu Achiaw Brepong, the representation of Ashanti Regional Council of State, indicated that, Presiding Members are very important people in the country in terms of development in the local levels in the country, hence the need to equip and empower them.
He said the workshop would help them gain experiences and share ideas to enhance political stability in the local level for total development in our communities in the realization of their developmental aspirations.
He urged them to always promote peace and stability for development for without meaningful peace there can not be development.
