Former President John Dramani Mahama says it is unacceptable for the government to want to sell the Komenda Sugar factory.
The former President who is on a “thank you” tour of the Central region explains that the rationale behind the setting up of the Komenda Sugar factory was to generate jobs for the people of Komenda.
He says the 23 Million Dollar Indian Exim Bank facility for the second phase of the project is available and should be accessed by the government to implement the rest of the project so it can benefit Ghanaians.
“The first part of the money was to build the factory. The second part was a 23million dollar facility which was meant to plant the farm and register outgrowers. The farmers around were going to be supported to plant a hybrid sugarcane variety with enough juice. That is where we got to. All the government had to do was to take the loan and continue the project” he said and explain that his government advertised for a PPP arrangement where experts from other countries would take over the factory and be paid consultancy fees or run it under a profit sharing arrangement.
John Dramani Mahama who is currently the Flagbearer of his party; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he is in the Central region to thank them for the confidence they reposed in him in re-electing him as flagbearer of the party.
He says he did not only visit party members and executives but ordinary people at the markets, taxi ranks and the beach.
He observed that the NDC needs to work hard for Ghanaians to accept them as an alternative to the ruling NPP. “We cannot say because NPP has failed, NDC will automatically be the party of choice for Ghanaians” he elaborated.
