Ghana’s 2024 election came with a lot of surprises. The surprises are particularly pronounced as far as the parliamentary election was concerned.
Here, rawgist.com presents some prominent parliamentarians who will not be part of the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
- John Peter Amewu:
John Peter Amewu occupied the Hohoe seat, making him the only MP in the Volta region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. However, he lost to the NDC candidate Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo.
Peter Amewu says despite the disappointment of the election outcome, his vision and commitment to build and develop Hohoe remains unchanged including providing support for Project Hohoe to be manifested.
- Ursula Owusu-Ekuful:
The MP for Ablekuma West and Minister of Communication and Digitalisation lost to Rev. Kwaku Addo of the NDC.
Rev. Kwaku Addo secured 31, 866 votes while Madam Owusu-Ekuful obtained 26,575 votes.
- Mavis Hawa Koomson:
MP for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture; Mavis Hawa Koomson, lost the seat to Phyllis Naa Koryor. Madam Koomson garnered 45,638 votes whiles Madam Naa Koryor obtained 50,886 votes.
- Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye:
Health Minister; Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye got his hopes of picking up the Ledzokuku seat dashed by NDC’s Benjamin Nartey Ayiku.
- KT Hammond
Experienced Parliamentarian and Minister for Trade and Industry; Kwabena Tahir Hammond will not be a part of the next Parliament after losing out to the NDC’s Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani in the Adansi-Asokwa contest.
While KT Hammond got 13,275 votes, Godwin obtained 14,229 votes.
- Ambrose Dery:
Former Interior Minister and MP for Nandom constituency; Ambrose Dery lost his seat to NDC’s Richard Kuuire by over 3000 votes. Mr. Dery obtained 10,706 votes while Mr. Kuuire obtained 13,743 votes to frustrated the fourth term bid of Mr. Dery.
