Six battle for Abuakwa North seat

Joseph-Boakye-DanquahThe New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on March 1st, 2016 hold parliamentary primaries to elect a candidate to replace late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North constituency, Joseph Danquah Adu.

About six candidates according to reports, have been passed by the constituency’s vetting committee headed by acting General Secretary, John Boadu to contest the primaries, according to Adom News’ Maxwell Kudekor.

The candidates include former MP, Professor Emeritus Samuel Kojo Amoako, Kyei Brobbey, former headmaster of Ofori Panin Senior High School (SHS), Osei Twum former headmaster of Nkawkaw SHS.

The rest are private legal practitioner, Lawyer Amoah, Gifty Twum Amponsah a teacher at Akosombo International School and Isaac Osei Ampadu, a Timber Merchant.

Maxwell Kudekor said over 300 delegates are expected to vote in the March 1 primaries to elect a new candidate.

This comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) set March 29 for the by-election in accordance with the Constitution.

The MP was murdered in cold blood at his residence on February 9, 2016, by a 19-year-old for motives yet to be established. The suspect, Daniel Asiedu has since been charged for murder.

Per the country’s constitution, the EC must organize a bye-election anytime a seat becomes vacant in Parliament.

The winner of the Abuakwa North primaries will represent the NPP in the March 29 by-election ahead of the November 7 general elections.
