ST. LOUIS SENIOR High School, has observed it’s sixty-fifth anniversary celebration with a plea on Lady Julia; the wife of Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, and other stakeholders to help address their infrastructural challenges.
Mrs. Theresa Addae Commey, the Headmistress of the school, expressed concern with the growing challenges facing the school.
She stated that though the school has a staff strength of over 120, only 30 are resident on campus due to inadequate bungalows. She adds that the student population requires an expansion in the school’s infrastructure. She says the school desperately needs more bungalows to accommodate staff as well as more dormitories for the students.
The headmistress also laments how the students have to run shifts to eat due to inadequate space in the dining hall; a situation she says is adversely affecting academic work in the school.
The theme for the anniversary celebration was “Equipping the girl child for tomorrow’s leadership: giving back to society”.
She made a passionate appeal to her Ladyship Julia, the wife of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to assist the school in that endeavour.
She commended the 1992 year group of the school for their pace setting vision and sterling qualities, as they provided the school with a lawn mower, co-sponsored the prizes for the award winners, provided solar panels for the jubilee block and painted the jubilee block.
Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Deputy minister of Education, commended the management staff and non teaching staff for their contribution in the equipping the girl child for tomorrow’s leadership.
He said the government’s vision is that, no child should be denied the opportunity of senior high school education by reason of their financial circumstances. This he said is the cornerstone of their Free SHS policy, which will be rolled out in September this year for all those who qualify to enter the public senior high schools for 2017/18 academic year. The policy he said also covers technical and vocational education.
He explains that quality will not be sacrificed during the implementation of the policy.
