Stakeholders must deliberate on spate of juvenile delinquency PIRAN

Public Interest and Research Advocacy Network (PIRAN-Ghana) has attributed the spate of children’s waywardness to permissiveness of parents and stressed the need for major stakeholders to deliberate on the level of juvenile delinquency in the country.

The deliberations should focus more on moral education, religious education and traditional values and education, the NGO has suggested.

The call follows the expose of illicit sex scandals involving students in second and tertiary institutions including Obuasi Sec Tech, Battor SHS, Ejisuman SHS, and many others that may not have not have come to the public.

Mr. Felix Djan Foh, President of PIRAN-GH said in a statement that the most recent Ejisuman sex scandals is a clear case of parental irresponsibility evident in father/spokesperson for the seven illicit sex advocates.

He said the position of the said spokesperson for blaming teachers points to parents’ notoriety for confronting and attacking teachers in the school.

The said father attack on tutors for correcting the child’s ill conduct and haircut and defending his child at a recent meeting with the girls to find out why they posted such videos online is unfortunate.

Mr. Foh has therefore urged Ghanaian Parents to be dutiful and responsible in raising their kids to be well-adjusted in schools, home and in church, mosque, shrine to get them well prepared for life.

He reminded parents  that the school train the children largely for carrier while the moral and religious upbringing  are largely the parents role and responsibility and that  ignoring that leads to the deviants behavior of smoking, drinking, stealing, illicit sex  and sometimes these misconduct  can trickle down the basic schools where some even organize sex party after completion of BECE.

Besides the above mentioned whilst some engage in illicit drug use, there are others who are into robbery, gambling and money scam known as Sakawa in our local parlance.

PIRAN has reminded parents that the Bible enjoins them to train up the child the way he should go and when he grows he will not depart from it.

According to PIRAN, most parents renege on the divine instruction on the way to train their children and attack teachers and school authorities for instilling discipline in their wards, forgetting how irresponsible some of them are.

“If parents play their role well at home before taking their children to school it will reduce the delinquent conduct among students of today”, the PIRAN boss noted.
