Stars will consolidate chance – Nyantakyi

Kwesi-Nyantakyi1-300x174Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), says the Black Stars have regained their confidence and will be out to consolidate their campaign to progress at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According the GFA president, the Stars, having beaten Algeria in their crucial second game last Friday to salvage their campaign, would put up that same fighting spirit to win against South Africa in the final game tomorrow.

“The game against Algeria was redemption time, and against South Africa, we will be out to consolidate our chances as we intend to advance to the quarter finals,” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

He said the Stars were not completely out of the woods despite the win last Friday and would approach the final game with the same game plan and focus that proved productive.

“The win no doubt has revived our chances and hope, but we are not completely out of the woods.

We don’t want our fate to be tied to others. We want to determine our own fate and will, thus, be out to win again in our final game.

He admitted that last Friday was a roller coaster moment for him as he watched the Stars against the Desert Foxes.

“It was a very difficult moment. The final three minutes the most trying. I was just imagining how we were going to handle such an early exit from the competition as that had not happened at least in the last five tournaments.

“It was going to be a big dent on Ghana football if the team made an early exit from the competition. As those worrying thoughts crossed my mind, the goal came and all I knew was I had jumped out of my seat, leaped for joy and looked for the nearest person to hug.

“It was more than just a big relief. From the despondency of losing out, suddenly our campaign had been revived and one could only imagine the feeling. With the chances redeemed, our focus in the final game is to consolidate whatever gains we have made,” Nyantakyi stressed.
