Head Pastor of the Atasemanso branch of the Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC) is worried about the proliferation of so-called spiritual directions given to Christians by some Pastors.
Ghanagong.com has been seeking views on the fast growing spiritual trend known in twi as akwankyere.
Already, Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC)-Okyerekrom; Rev. Emmanuel Adjei has backed the practice. He explained that it is biblical but expressed worry that some people take it to extreme proportions and warned Christians to be wary of such people since they may be operating with demonic spirits.
Pastor Samuel Aduama of the CCC however holds an opposing view. He believes these practices should not be entertained.
“It is unfortunate this is gaining roots in this country” he said in an interview with ghanagong.com’s Bernard Buachi.
“If we don’t sit up and put together the right framework, all kinds of people will come and give people all kinds of things to consume. In every business, there are rules to abide by to secure the health of consumers. Churches are giving people things to drink and eat that cannot be verified. We might wake up one day and experience genocide in the name of akwankyere” he opined.
Pastor Aduama suggests the Christian community sets up structures and systems to curb the excesses.
“We should especially encourage people to go to school. Rwanda is a test case. Now there is sanity in the system after churches were closed down” he observed and further suggested that Pastors be licensed so that they are accountable to some regulatory authority.
“Already if you are not gazetted to officiate marriages, you cannot. There should be something like that” he pointed out strongly and said “the unexpected can happen in this country through “men of God”.
