Workers at the Suame Magazine at Kumasi have expressed dissatisfaction at the leadership of Hon. Osei Kyei-
Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Suame constituency.
They are charging the MP for poor performance.
Leaders of the union in a mixed expression of mild anger and frustration described as “poor” the leadership of the minority leader.
They were speaking at a live broadcast programme organised by Kumasi based ‘Nhyira Fm, to assess the leadership of Hon. Mensah-Bonsu, MP for the area and also to promote the grievances of the industrial workers.
According to their union; SMIDO, Mensah-Bonsu’s over a decade term in parliament is characterized by pervasive vacuity of development and progress.
They alleged that before the 2012 elections, the MP made a variety of promises of development and restoration their lost hopes.
“He promised to repair our roads, provide various interventions, so many promises but he hardly comes to Kumasi”.
“Since he entered parliament for 16 years, the only thing he gave us is five(5) computers. Because of his poor performance, we have named a very popular bridge after him. The bridge is always stagnant and a breeding house for all mosquitoes in Kumasi. The bridge is called Osei Kyei Mensah Bridge.”
The workers are therefore calling for the MP to rescind his decision to seek re-election and pave way for more competent candidates.
In response, the MP said, development of industrial areas are direct responsibilities of government.
He tutored that MPs are to lobby but not responsible for development.
Nonetheless, he challenged the workers’ claim by enumerating projects he has lobbied for the constituency.
Currently, there are several forces threatening to unseat Hon. Mensah-Bonsu. There have been reports of vile connivance by constituency party executives to get him out of parliament.
So far, two persons have picked their forms in the Suame constituency to wrestle power from the incumbent in the NPP upcoming primaries.
