Sunyani Municipal Assembly achieves revenue target for 2014

targetThe Sunyani Municipal Assembly was able to generate GH¢ 994,525.05 internally, by the end of September, to augment its District Assembly Common Fund for development.

It has been able to achieve 74.3 percent of the Assembly’s targeted revenue of GH¢ 1,339,564.70 for 2014, an indication that all things being equal, the Assembly can meet the target by the close of the year.

The revenue was accrued from rates, land and royalties, rent on lands, building and houses, fees, fines and penalties and miscellaneous, Mr Kwasi Oppong Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, disclosed these at the third ordinary meeting of the Assembly on Thursday.

He asked revenue collectors not to be complacent with the achievement, but ought to work harder to enable the Assembly to attain the set target.

Mr Oppong-Ababio said the Assembly was committed to ensure equitable distribution of development projects in the communities, and advised tax payers to honour their obligations regularly and promptly.

He explained that almost all the communities within the Municipality, had in one way or the other, benefited from development projects under the Urban Development Grant and the District Development Fund.

Some of these projects include the constructions of school blocks, health centres, teachers’ bungalows, roads, toilets, boreholes and nurses quarters.

Mr Oppong-Ababio said 47 urban roads were being constructed in the Municipality, while it had placed priority on road electrification projects in the Assembly’s 2014-2017 Medium-Term Development Plan.

On the street naming and property addressing system, the Municipal Chief Executive said the Assembly was at advanced stages in the implementation of the exercise, stating that 50 poles had been planted with 80 arms, covering 60 streets in the Municipality.

Mr Oppong-Ababio pointed out that without the support of the Assembly members development efforts would be in vain, and appealed to them to bury their political differences and support the course of development.
