Ghana Gender News-Defense for Children International-Ghana has been emphasizing the importance of empowering the Girl Child.
They insist the contribution of an empowered girl to the socio-economic growth of the society cannot be overemphasized.
Nana Akamanyi Essandoh, President of DCI-Ghana, who was speaking at a sensitization programme as part of world Girl Child Day, observed that, there is the need to always protect and project the Girl Child from infancy to help her unravel her God-given talent to become useful to society.
The programme was on the theme With her, A Skilled Girl Force-Reducing Child marriage and sexual Violence in Ghana.
He explains that to reduce all forms of violence against women especially the Girl Child, there is the need to strengthen Social welfare, the Police and other stakeholders in line with child protection agencies, and also encourage leaders to support the fight against community based violence against women.
He also expressed the need to institute legal reforms to ensure that the girl child is gainfully employed, and tasked participants from some selected schools in the Kumasi metropolis and beyond including educationists, Heads of schools Imams and students to help share ideas on how to protect and project the Girl Child.
Madam Vida Owusu, Metro Girl Child Coordinator, stressed the need to empower the girl child to become who they want to become in future by supporting them and helping them come out of their challenges.
She disclosed that, the girls are vulnerable but will be great assets when given the needed support, protection and guidance.
