Mr Joseph Stanley Mwini, Headmaster for the Deduako Community Special Vocational School for the Intellectually Challenged has decried the lack of support to his outfit by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
According to him, the school has since 2006 received nothing to support the vocational aspect of its mandate.
The school, he intimated have had to suffer a perennial challenge in receiving its subvention on time to cater for its inmates.
Speaking to GO with a tearful eye during a visit by some officials of MTN to the facility as part of this year’s staff outreach work christened Y’ello-care, Mr Mwini lamented the dire situation at the school.
OTHER CHALLENGES:
Throwing more light on the challenges the school is facing, the Headmaster mentioned lack of teachers as part of the issues they have had to deal with at the school.
According to him, many tutors have refused postings to the facility while others who come to teach there find themselves out of the system because of the difficulties associated with taking care of special kids.
Previously, Mr Mwini indicated tutors from the University of Cape-Coast accepted the invitation to teach at the school but added that same has not been the case nowadays.
He bemoaned the lack of adequate classrooms as well as inadequate teaching materials in the school, hinting this has made it difficult for the kids to study in convenience as the challenges they face should have required.
MTN:
Presenting some five(5) specially designed computers to the School during the visit, Mr Sam Yeboah, Head of IT Department, MTN-Northern Business District underscored the importance to resource such special schools with IT equipment and internet access.
This year, he revealed MTN had done three(3) presentations to three special schools in the Ashanti Region.
These gestures, he intimated was to lessen the burden on authorities at these facilities and also to support government to give better care to children needs.
He, however, promised to carry the concerns the school authorities at the Deduako Special School had expressed Management of MTN-Ghana.
Later at the tour, MTN officials presented 76 bags of cement to the school as well as teaching aids, 4 gas cookers, a cylinder and some teaching aids valued at about GHC 7,000.00 to the Headmaster of the school.
