Many Traditional media houses are well on their way to extinction. This is according to digital media expert; Maximus Ametorgoh.
At a Digital Media training workshop for selected media houses in the Ashanti region, Maximus Ametorgoh revealed that “Journalists are not taking advantage of digital media to promote their stories”. He explained that the content aired by media houses should also be treated for Social media channels if they want to remain relevant.
He says traditional media practitioners cannot compete with social media but should rather see social media as an enabler. “Digital media can be used to push stories. Media houses should have strategies for digital channels. They should look at where people are migrating to and many people are spending more time online.”
Mr. Ametorgoh stressed that if media houses continue to focus on their traditional ways, they will soon lose out.
“Many of the traditional media will die out if they do not take a look at utilizing digital media. You can’t reach everybody with your newspaper but everyone moves with a phone or laptop”, he explained.
The workshop which introduced many media practitioners to Digital media platforms was organized by Telecommunications giant MTN.
