Security personnel in the Tamale metropolis are on high alert following recent shooting incidents in the area. Recent shooting incidents at Savelugu and the Tamale Township have so far recorded four deaths.
Ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national delegates’ conference held in Tamale, additional police personnel were drawn from Bolga, Sunyani and Accra to augment the operations of the Northern Regional Police Command.
Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah in an interview said some of the additional security personnel have been reassigned special duties after the NPP delegates’ conference.
He said, “Some have left but some are around with the vehicles and we are still using them for police duties in the conflict areas.”
DCOP Ken Yeboah cautioned politicians against politicizing police operations in the area. He challenged them to rather assist the police to combat crime. He also confirmed the setting up of two additional police stations in the Tamale Metropolis to maximize security operations there.
“We are doing the visibility studies as to where to site the satellite police stations but we have the tent city police stations around.”
According to DCOP Ken Yeboah, 10 satellite police stations were established during the NPP national delegates’ conference which he said will be maintained.
