The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) is to be converted into a state owned Limited Liability Company by 2015.
The conversion is to allow the company to move ITS OPERATIONS beyond the Tema Metropolis.
The TDC was set up to plan and develop public land and also manage the township of Tema with their latest project being the construction of an eight storey building made up of shops, restaurants, banking halls and offices as part of the redevelopment of the defunct Ghana National trading Corporation (GNTC) shops in Tema.
Speaking to rawgist.com, Minister of Works and Housing Alhaji Collins Dauda says the conversion into a limited liability company to enable it to expand its operations.
“What government has done is that we are concluding a process to convert Tema Development Corporation (TDC) into a state owned company and what that means is that, if the conversion concluded TDC can take land outside the acquisition area of Tema and develop it.”
The Minister hoped that by 2015 the conversion can be concluded with parliamentary approval which can then give the TDC the power to move out of the acquisition area of Tema and its environs with almost all its lands used or occupied.
He was of the view that TDC can and should be able to generate funds to run its operations therefore the conversion into a state owned limited liability company is the best decision considering what the company is doing for now thereby government commitment to ensure that the handicap of TDC’s confinement to the acquisition area is addressed.
Alhaji Collins Dauda commended the TDC for the work they are doing to ensure the development of Tema is done properly.
“We want to commend TDC and to encourage them to continue with their good works so that tomorrow we can live a legacy for posterity.”
