The battle is the lost

Afoko-agyapong-Akufo-AddoI feel riled up, and will suggest that yaanom should be prepared to be offended because walahi – talahi some things in this write-up will upset them.

Gambling which could lead to addiction, is a serious problem that can affect ones relationships, financial status and even work prospects. It could also cause grave health problems such as mood swings, depression and stress. It could even lead to suicide.

My good friend, Nimo sent his younger brother who is addicted to gambling to me for counseling. In the middle of my engagement with him, he sounded unwell so I offered to send him to a clinic near my home.

After some diagnosis, the doctor told the young man that he has pneumonia. Visibly astonished, he asked the doctor whether he is a prophet aside being a doctor.

Doctor: why do you ask?

Young man: Doc, you must be a prophet to know that I am a brother to Nimo.

We broke into an uncontrollable laughter. The young man had mistaken pneumonia for “nimonua”, an Akan word which means Nimo’s brother. The Doctor looked at my face and jokingly asked, “Are you also a prophet?”

Immediately, an auction came upon me and I began to speak in tongues: ” shakatakaba, kabayata baba, Opana shakatakaya bababa.”

I am now in the spirit and can see someone pressing a self-destruct button. A still small voice called, “Afraneee, Afraneee, Afrane my daughter, go and inform Opana that he has shot himself in the foot by sanctioning the suspension of key members of his party. I asked, “How?” And the following is the information I had:

As much as floating voters are important in an election, the victory of a political party mainly rests on a party’s core supporters. The lost of one supporter could translate into lost of multiple votes, since anyone who leaves a party possibly leaves with votes of siblings, friends, spouses and other relatives. Political giants like Afoko, Agyapong and Crabbe could pull away thousands of supporters. If the three have about 30,000 supporters nationwide who want to show solidarity, there could be big trouble.

Assuming these number also have at least 10 followers each, there is going to be an estimated lost of 300,000 votes; in this case, I think the following statistics would be of interest.

2000 Presidential Results: John Agyekum Kuffour 3,131, 739; John Atta Mills 2,895,575. Difference: 236,164. Mr. Kuffour won in a run-off.

2008: Nana Akufo-Addo – 4,204,073; John Atta Mills – 4,079,889. Difference: 133,184. Prof. Mills won in a run-off.

2012: John Dramani Mahama – 5,573,572; Nana Akufo-Addo 5,263,286. Difference: 310,286. I hope you get the whiff.

But that’s not all oo. Yaanom are in debt up to their eyeballs; and no one wants to fund their campaign – they say Opana has not been prudent in the use of party money. According to reliable sources, Opana and his team have spent huge sums of money to sponsor some groups to intimidate the EC to compile a new voters’ register; a venture that did not produce the desired result.

Some leading members of yaanom’s family are livid because of this. They think Opana and his advisers have been wasteful since that kind of money could have been used to support the party’s machinery at the grassroots.

Brethren and sisteren, another wahala dey oo, tongues are wagging paa. the filla buzzing around is that Opana is not a good role model. In spite of the effects of gambling they say he went to teach some youth at La Dadekotipon how to gamble with cards when he visited the constituency as part of his campaign tour.

Kikikikikiki, if you think this is bad enough, wait for a bombshell. On the same day and at the same constituency, Opana endorsed a hiplife artiste who showed his private part while dancing behind a female dancer on stage in December last year at the Accra Conference Centre. Who whispered that there will be free weed Jam in secondary schools in the unlikely event that Opana achieves his dream. I never said that oo. Please let me sit my somewhere and think of myself. I don’t want any trouble wai.

Eiwoo, the odds are strongly against Opana since his major campaign messages are “ma try ma kw3” and “Nana beba”. What seems to be his last card is the problem at ECG. The Citizen’s Mail newspaper in its May 23, 2016 edition, reported that some management members of ECG had a secret meeting with yaanom at 3pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016 to conclude plans to cause rampant power outages and industrial actions to make government unpopular.

But with a declaration from the nifty young man from Bole that he is going to fix that problem too, yaanom will not have any tangible campaign message. Their reason for power is to pillage the coffers of the state; all other motives are incidental. In achieving this, they are prepared to cajole, lie, slander, hoodwink, sabotage and even destroy. The battle, therefore, can never be the Lord’s because God will never favour such an impish and satanic cause. So, the battle will continue to be the lost.
