The menace of dumsor: a problem of money and fuel

Executive Director of ACEP; Ben Boakye

Ghanaians have been battling with the menace of power outages from the era of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the situation does not seem to be getting any better since the Power Distribution System (PDS) took over.

Many Ghanaians have been complaining of their electrical appliances being destroyed as a result of the sudden outages and the power surges. They say no information is given them prior to the outages. They are always left wondering what the real cause of the power outages are since the situation seem not to be getting better.

However the Executive Director For the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) Mr. Ben Boakye has indicated that from his knowledge, the power outages should be attributed to the issue of fuel and Money

He was speaking in an interview on Joy News on Tuesday July 9, 2019.

According to Him, the delays in getting fuel by the power producers in distributing electricity are causing these dumsor issues , and in a long run as a result of funds not being allocated early to purchase it on time leading to these delays.

“It’s a cyclical situation of persistent delays in delivery of fuel, which of course will be attributed to cash, if you have cash delivered on time to the suppliers, that allows them to plan adequately to be able to deliver the fuel on time, so its fuel and ultimately money.” He said.

He added that the PDS should make an effort to inform citizens when they are to take the light since it is their job to do so in order to destroy electrical appliances.
