One more person has been killed in the clashes after earlier reports of two deaths following the conflict that erupted Saturday morning.
Several houses have been torched while hundreds of people have fled into nearby bushes.
District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Adam Imoro, told Citi News that, “the Mamprusis went to burn a Bimoba community, in the process, two people were killed and one wounded”.
This he said sparked the issue on Saturday. “…So many counter attacks until the security came in,” said the DCE.
According to him, the attacks were linked to previous ones in neighbouring Kpemale that happened earlier in the week, where one person was killed.
He said, “the issue in Kpemale is what has resulted in this particular problem. It is through Kpemale that the trust which existed between Mamprusis, Bimobas and even Kokombas was lost”.
“If you look at the history, for the past 100 years, I cannot tell when Mamprusis fought against Bimobas in particular. It is through Kpemale that some Mamprusis were killed and they started killing one another,” Adam Imoro claimed.
The DCE, however, added that relative calm had returned to the area.
“We have deployed security men to all the flash points, we have been able to take many signals on the ground and we are putting in measures to arrest the conflicts,” he said.
