Three to battle for soul of Ashanti NDC

The Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi will soon be buzzing with the heated winds being created by the upcoming internal elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Fighting hard to be recognised as the face of the NDC will be three notable faces of the party.

Having worked previously at various positions, Joseph Yammin, former regional secretary, Augustus Nana Akwasi, current 1st vice chairman and Sawyerr Ativor, current second vice-chairman will be battling to secure the ticket as regional chairman.

Contrary to earlier speculations that the former regional minister, Samuel Sarpong was also lacing his boots to contest has been disproved by the latter insisting he was not interested.

INVESTIGATIONS:
Scores of party people who spoke to GO during a recent survey indicated their preference for a tough character.

They opined that since the party was in opposition only a tough and intelligent chairman could lead the party back to power.

According to the respondents, the party lost power due to the laziness on the part of their regional, branch and ward executives.

Some blamed their leaders for denying them the resources and funds for effective campaign.

PREFERENCE:
Speaking about their preference out of the three names that had popped up as prospective regional chairman, most of the respondents tipped Joseph Yamin as the best among the trio.

They claimed the former regional secretary had displayed loyalty and selflessness to the course of the NDC party.

The others who tipped the first vice, Augustus Nana Akwasi pointed to his generosity to party people as reason for their choice.

Mr Sawyerr Ativor, the second vice chairman had the least bill of health from the respondents even though they claimed he had served the party faithfully.

The party people insisted getting power in 2020 would be a hell of a battle and therefore needed an unwavering and intelligent chairman to lead them from the Ashanti region.
