Tikrom: 100 year-old heaps of rubbish finally cleared

The Chiefs and people of Tikrom in the Ashanti region are excited about the commencement of the removal of huge heaps of rubbish in the town.

They say they have lived with the unpleasant heap for some one hundred years.

Chief of the area; Nana Oti Awere who spoke to www.rawgist.com recounted that the situation has remained an Albatros around their necks for a long time. He explained that his outfit has met several times with the Municipal Chief Executive of the area over the issue. He explains that the Assembly was unable to clear the heap as promised but only managed to release a payloader whiles the rest of the cost is borne by the traditional authorities.

The Chief could not give the cost of clearing the two giant heaps. He explained that they will only know the cost after all the heaps have been cleared since they were being charged per trip of rubbish moved.

Listen to the Chief of Tikrom:

The residents were extremely grateful to the traditional authorities. They say they can now breath some fresh air and not be in fear of disease outbreaks.
