The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rallied Ghanaians to shy away from the overplayed excuses that only breeds poverty and set to work for the kind of Ghana the populace wants to see in the near future.
According to him, the time was up to ensure all resources including the human and natural were mobilised for the development of the country.
Speaking at the 60th independence day celebration at the black star square, the president maintained the excuses leading to poverty in the country could not be accepted anymore by the people.
He, therefore, urged the populace to rise up to the occasion when all points to brighter prospects by working their socks to leave the country a better place for the unborn generation.
CORRUPTION:
The president called for a more vigorous approach to the fight of corruption in public life.
This, he intimated was the only way the canker that seem to pervade the society can be rid off the backs of the people.
Corruption, he expressed had rolled back the gains the country should have chalked in its 60years of existence.
He rallied civil society as well as the media to join in this fight to ensure the public purse is protected at all times.
ENVIRONMENT:
The president bemoaned the wanton degradation of the country’s natural resources.
According to him, it was time the Nation fought such ills with all strength so as to leave a better legacy for the upcoming generation.
He stressed it was dangerous for the country to rid its forest cover for selfish gains.
Water bodies and forest cover, he posited should therefore be protected by all so as to safeguard the existence of the people in the country.
