The Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Mr Abdul-Malik Kwaku Baako has fiercely indicted top party officials of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for squandering funds meant for party work in the 2016 general elections.
According to him, instead of appropriating funds to grass-root officers to conduct local campaign operations top officials of the NDC rather chose to line their pockets with same.
Speaking on news-file, a current affairs programme on joy fm, the veteran writer bemoaned the apathetic and wasteful nature of the NDC officers including their national and regional campaign coordinators.
‘’I am surprised the NDC is seeking solutions elsewhere when they know their top party officials including their campaign coordinators across the country chopped monies meant for campaign operations’’, the editor bluntly intimated.
Mr Baako stressed the recent outbursts of some supporters of the NDC in the Eastern Region during a meeting called to diagnose the cause of the party’s infamous defeat to the NPP was legitimate.
HISTORY:
Recalling how incumbent parties in the country have behaved during election periods, Mr Baako said the complacency bug had always bitten top officials who instead of funding grass-root activities choose to steal funds for their personal nourishment.
According to him, incumbent governments have always had the notion the huge numbers they see around them meant grass-root work was in progress.
But, he disclosed many followed the NDC campaign trail because they felt money was available to be ‘chopped’.
‘’The NDC top officials chopped funds meant for actual campaign and turned around to act as if all was well when they knew party workers especially grass-root officers were starving’’, Mr Baako nailed.
PRESCRIPTION:
Giving advice to the Professor Kwesi Botchwey fact finding committee which is seeking for reasons why the party performed abysmally at the 2016 polls, Mr Baako urged them to call the coordinators to account for the monies given them.
He stressed they question everyone who was in charge of funds and party work ahead of the polls so as to gauge how they acted and spent funds.
This, according to him will give the committee a fair idea as to how to prescribe remedies for future operations.
He urged the likes of Kofi Adams, the 2016 NDC Campaign Coordinator and the party’s national chairman, Kofi Portuphy to shut their mouths and allow the fact finding committee to finish its work since they were largely part of the reasons the party lost the 2016 elections.
