Ghana News–Last Saturday’s Ashanti Regional Executive Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) produced one of the shocking results in the branch’s history.
Nana Ama Ampomah, the incumbent women’s organizer, Francis Adomako, a new face for the regional organizer position and Nelson Owusu Ansah as predicted by the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper won their bids to the positions they sought for.
Kwabena Senkyire, a former regional executive swept past his contenders to win the 1st Vice-Chairman contest.
Sam Cudjoe another former executive member also won his attempt to become the Second Vice-Chairman of the Party.
With the incumbent Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Sam Pyne, incumbent Secretary going into the Ejura conference unchallenged the way was clear for the conduct of an acclamation.
The party, by the Ejura results would seek to chart a new path since the Wontumi’s grip on the executives is now broken.
TENSION:
With tension reaching fever pitch before the polls commenced, it was clear that the Ejura contest will reveal interesting outcomes.
Even when the polls delayed for the election officials as well as conference leaders to get proper ventilation into the voting arena, aspirants were busily rounding up their delegate to delegate campaign.
With polls commencing some minutes after midday it was a sight to behold when delegates lined up constituency by constituency to cast their ballots.
This orderly manner however gave way to momentary rowdy scenes until the EC officials calmed tempers with explanation of the various processes.
JUBILATION:
There was wild and spontaneous jubilation on the grounds when incumbent women organizer, Nana Ama Ampomah retained her position despite grand campaign launched by Auntie Bea, the only contender.
Supporters of Francis Adomako, in surprising turn of events nearly caused an earthquake as they sang and chanted in deafening sounds to herald the victory of the University lecturer.
Nelson Owusu Ansah, could not hide his joy as his supporters carried him shoulder high to signify the victory he had chalked in the youth organizer contest.
