Two persons injured in stampede after Elephants besieged Bongo town

elephantsResidents of Bongo in the Upper East Region were thrown into a state of fear Friday evening when two giant elephants besieged the town.

An eyewitness tells rawgist.com they were taken aback at the development as this was the first time such a thing was happening.

The eyewitness said the height of each of the elephant was about five feet (5 ft).

He added that two persons have also been rushed to the Bongo District hospital due to injuries as a result of the stampede caused when the animals showed up.

The victims included a ten year old and a female student of the school Bongo Senior High School.

Attempts by residents to drive the elephants away using music failed.

“It just happened this evening when we saw two giant elephants invade the town and they moved towards the Bongo Senior High School. We were all surprised and we do not know the whereabouts of these elephants, infact we are in fear,” a resident narrated.

The elephants, the witness said have not caused any destruction to human property; they have crossed a nearby river entering Yelwongo border towards Burkina Faso.

Police in the area rushed to the scene to ensure safety of the residents.
