UDS indefinitely postpones commencement of 2024/2025 academic year

The University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale has indefinitely postponed the reopening of its 2024/2025 academic year, which was initially scheduled for September 27, 2024.

The decision comes as a result of ongoing industrial action by several key unions within Ghana’s public universities.

These institutions include the Ghana Association of University Administration (GAUA), the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU-TUC), which UDS noted have significantly disrupted the university’s academic service delivery.

This development affects both fresh and continuing students, who now face uncertainty about the resumption of the academic year.

“All students and the general public will be informed about the subsequent arrangements, once the industrial action has been called off,” part of the statement read.

Meanwhile, the University of Ghana, also postponed the start of the 2024/2025 academic year, attributing the delay to the ongoing strike actions by several employee groups, which have severely impacted regular university operations.
