UG Medical Centre to be fully operational by close of year – Health Minister

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has revealed that the controversial University of Ghana Medical Centre will be fully operational by close of the year.

The ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) delayed its opening over a year after it took over power from the Mahama led administration which caused a public backlash.

But after several months of controversy, the health centre was opened in July 2018 for specialized outpatients services.

The Minister of Health at an event in Accra stated that work is ongoing to make the hospital fully operation.

“Where we are now some actions have been taken and certain services though limited are being provided in the facility. By the close of the year will see close to a hundred per cent operationalization of the entire facility. And I believe that when that happens all of us will benefit like it’s anticipated that it’s good for all of us. We’ll not let it sit there idling, we’ll work hard to make sure that the nation gets the best out of that facility.”
