Unicom Commodity Ghana limited, buyers of cocoa and cashew have expressed their commitment towards increasing productivity and enhancing the livelihoods of their clients.
To this end, the company has launched a premium to motivate cocoa farmers who also happen to be their clients.
The company explains that the premium is to help them increase production.
At the launching at Samraboi in the Western region of Ghana, Mr. Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi, General Manager of the company, explained that, the gesture was a usual initiative the company embarked on every year to help motivate the farmers to improve on productivity and make farming lucrative to enable them take good care of themselves and their families.
He explained that the premium is a bonus for every bag of cocoa sold to UNICOM by a farmer.
He said the company also provides Agro inputs and other logistics to farmers on high purchase.
He hoped that such initiatives would help the farmers meet their production targets and also transport their products to sales points.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, the Western Regional Minister, entreated the farmers to take agriculture seriously and not think farming is meant for the poor.
He revealed that the government is putting in place measures to make farming attractive and lucrative.
He urged the youth to take advantage of the planting for food and jobs and venture into agriculture to enable them becomes self employed.
