We don’t own a $20m office – Asiedu Nketia

asiedu nketiaGeneral Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has admitted that the NDC has built an expensive ultra-modern office complex, but will not disclose how much it costs.

The 4-storey building has been at the center of controversy since news broke that the party spent about US$20 million to construct it.

He said upon strategic calculations the party realized that a new office complex would be better than maintaining their previous office at Asylum Down in Accra and continue to pay rent.

However, the NDC has been silent on the issue until now.

At a press conference at the new office in Adabraka on Wednesday, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu told Citi News that “If you want any information from our office or indeed from anybody, you don’t go putting wrong information into the media first and be calling us to respond. I have said that whoever says NDC has built a 20 million dollar office or NDC is moving into a 20 million dollar office complex that may be his business. He may not be referring to this office, so I cannot be answering questions about a 20 million dollar mansion because I don’t know where it is located. So this is a new office we have acquired.”

He, however, used the opportunity to clarify the various problems that has plagued the party’s constituency elections saying the Functional Executive Committee will soon hold an emergency meeting for the way forward for the election.

He indicated that “I’ve already instructed the administrator and it is going to be an emergency meeting. We have to at least clear the functional executive committee meeting before this weekend so that it can pave way for the national executive meeting somewhere in the course of next week.”

“To be honest with you, our own party time table has been affected so it is in the interest of every party member that we get an expeditious solution to the problem so we can proceed with other things,” the General Secretary added.
