The princess of Jordan and president of the Union for International Cancer Control, Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired has underscored the need to minify the occurrence of new cases of cancer in the country and the world over.
“we have to close the tap,” she opined.
Speaking at this year’s World Cancer Day held at the Great hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, the princess of Jordan lauded Kumasi for becoming the first city in Africa and the fourth in the world to pilot the city challenge program against cancer.

World Cancer Day, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and celebrated each year on 4th February, is an opportunity to rally the international community to end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer.
This year’s theme, “I am and I will” acknowledges that everyone has the capacity to address the cancer burden. We can work together to reduce cancer risk factors. We can overcome barriers to early diagnosis, treatment and palliative care. We can work together to improve cancer control and achieve global targets to reduce premature mortality from cancer.
