The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Kumasi, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi has indicated the resolve of his outfit to sustain the ongoing sanitation exercise in the metropolis.
This, he mentioned is to ensure no one in the city of Kumasi dies or gets sick because of insanitary conditions.
Speaking to the media after partaking in last Saturday’s clean-up exercise, the Mayor noted the determination by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to rid the city of filth and unhygienic conditions.
Insanitary conditions, he stated impacts negatively on the image of the people and the City of Kumasi.
MEASURES:
Mr Assibey mentioned plans by the KMA to instill discipline in the public towards keeping their surroundings clean.
According to him, more sanitary inspectors will also be deployed to ensure every resident takes part in the clean up exercise lined up by the Assembly.
The Mayor expressed optimism that the public will get involved in the exercise if they are properly sensitized.
Some of the Assembly’s staff, he disclosed will periodically join in the exercise so as to lead by example.
GREENING:
The Mayor also hinted of plans to sustain the tree planting exercise in the metropolis.
This, he noted will increase the greenery of the metropolis and help to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the city of Kumasi.
Many youth, including national service persons, he stressed have and will be continually engaged to carry out the tree planting exercise.
By this, he mentioned the exercise will exude interest in the citizenry for them to join to make tree planting part of the people in Kumasi.
