We’re Taking Back Ejisu Parliamentary Seat—Justin Kodua Frimpong Asserts.
Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says his party was poised to retain the Ejisu Parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to this reporter over the weekend, Lawyer Kodua noted that the party despite losing its industrious former MP, John Kumah to death was determined to win the upcoming election arising out of his demise with an increased vote margin.
He stated that the party through its late MP who also doubled as a Deputy Minister of Finance had laid a solid foundation of development.
“We in the NPP are sure of retaining the Ejisu MP seat in the upcoming election because we’ve worked hard and related well with the people in the constituency”, the General Secretary intimated.
Commitment:
Lawyer Kodua stressed that the NPP was committed to using the mandate the Ejisu people gave them to work to develop the famous ancient constituency.
The work, he stated, had been started by the late MP and the other NPP MPs who came previously.
The NPP, the General Secretary noted was therefore bent on continuing with the work it had started in the constituency and complete same for the people.
“The Ejisu people have continuously shown commitment to us by endorsing our candidates as Members of Parliament since 1996 and we are committed to retaining the parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election so we can continue with both the development projects and initiatives we’ve started”, the General Secretary stressed.
Background:
On the 7th of March, 2024, Ghana 🇬🇭 and the people of Ejisu constituency lost its Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament, Dr John Ampontuah Kumah through death.
The sudden death occurred shortly after the hard working MP had been reported to have eaten contaminated food while touring the Northern Region.
However, autopsy report proved that the former MP died out of a blood related ailment.
Following the announcement of the death of the late MP, the Ejisu Community was thrown into a state of mourning with many recounting the many kindnesses the late MP had accorded to them.
Following the official announcement to the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin in similar manner informed the Electoral Commission (EC) who by constitutional mandate fixed a by-election for 30th September, 2024.
Election Dynamics:
Interestingly, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party has declined the offer to field a candidate to contest the upcoming by-election in Ejisu.
However, Hon Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former NPP MP for Ejisu has declared and filed his candidature to contest the upcoming by-election as an independent candidate.
Next week Saturday’s by-election therefore promises to be a straight fight between the NPP candidate, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, and Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is this time going against his own party’s choice.
The EC on Friday closed the filing of nomination process and at the time of going to press six (6) persons including three independent candidates had filed to contest the by-election with three others also doing so on political parties sponsorship.
