The hitherto peaceful environment of Sukrong-Bethlehem, a predominantly farming community in the Upper West Akyem District in the Eastern Region, was disturbed yesterday following the murder of a 63-year-old woman on her farm.
Madam Cecilia Agbah was allegedly murdered and her head severed by a 35-year-old man, Odeifo Kobinah, who is currently in the grip of the police.
A family source told the Daily Graphic that Madam Agbah had gone to her farm to harvest some foodstuffs for the house.
It said after they had waited for a long time without Madam Agbah returning, some of her children decided to follow up to the farm, only to find the headless body of Madam Agbah, with machete wounds all over the body.
The Asamankese District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Mr Anane Appiah, confirmed the story and said after initial investigations, the suspect was arrested.
He said during interrogation, the suspect could not explain the motive for allegedly killing the woman but later led the police to retrieve the severed head from a palm tree.
Meanwhile, the body of Madam Agbah has been deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
